zeeridder • also called sitiron. Zeeridder translates as sea knight. It was first described by Jacob van Maerlant in the late 13th century [1] and later included in Adriaen Coenens series of books [2]. The zeeridder looks like it is wearing armour (made of skin), has a shield to protect him, and strong hands. It is said they occur in the sea around England.
